NASCAR is the largest sanctioning body of stock car racing in the United States, and arguably the most popular form of spectator racing in the United States.
What is a Stock Car?
A stock car is just like any other street Chevy, Ford or Dodge etc., except they have been sanctioned by NASCAR and adapted to include full blown race car amenities such as full roll cages and fire systems to keep the driver safe. Many of the same safety amenities that are included in NASCAR’s race cars have now been included in street cars for driver safety.
What Are the Different Types of Race Courses?
NASCAR’s tracks are basically oval. Some are short oval tracks and some are Speedway like Tallageda and Daytona, and they also run on road courses.
What is Formula One?
Formula One is an international form of racing that incorporates two car teams. It is probably the most expensive form of racing because of the technology and aerodynamics that are put into the car. They arguably, have the fastest cars and road cars in the league because of the technology allowed in Formula One.
What is the Indy Racing League (IRL)?
The Indy Racing League is owned by Tony George, who also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which hosts the Indy 500 each year in May. These cars are similar to the Formula One’s cars, but without the technology to keep costs down.

The SCCA is the sports car club of America. They are into amateur racing, pro rallying, road rallying and all other kinds of amateur sports.
What Are Dragsters?
Dragsters are straight line cars with amazing horsepower and tire burn out. Tire temperature is very critical in dragster just as with NASCAR, Formula, One, champcar and IOL.
What Are “Open-Cockpit Sports Cars”?
Open cock-pit sports cars means they don’t have a roof over the driver’s head, so the driver’s helmet is visible. They are purposely built with fenders to give them a lot of aerodynamic surface.
What Are “Open-Wheeled Vehicles”?
Open-wheeled vehicles are the cars you see in Formula One, champcar and ARL. These cars are constructed so you can actually see the tires on the outside of the body.
What Are “Closed-Wheeled Vehicles”?
Closed wheel vehicles are the everyday cars you see each day. These cars are called closed wheeled because you cannot see the tires. Closed wheel tires can be a Camero, Sedan, Mustang or a Toyota etc. NASCAR race cars are also considered closed wheeled vehicles, because you cannot see the tires on the outside of the car.
