Many people falsely believe that fighting cigarette odor with air freshener is the best choice. This is incorrect. The truth is that air fresheners do not fight the odor but instead cover it up. When the air freshener wears off you are still left with the same nasty odor of cigarette smoke to deal with. Additionally, there are other reasons to not use air freshener to try to combat cigarette smoke. Air fresheners can be irritating to your skin, eyes or your respiratory system. They can also contain chemicals that are not good for the planet. So not only does this not work but it can be irritating to you as not a green choice.
There is a better alternative that works and is environmentally friendly. What you need to do is soak two white towels in distilled white vinegar and place them in two separate bowls. Take them to your car and strategically place them where you feel the cigarette odor is most concentrated. This will generally be close to the ashtrays. There is no limit to how many towel and bowl combinations of distilled white vinegar that you can use. Two is a good recommendation for a normal size car but you can use more and may even need to use more if you have a large car, an SUV or van. Once you have placed the soaked towels in your car all you have to do is wait. This will dissolve the bad cigarette odor.
There are other benefits to removing the cigarette smell with distilled white vinegar. Besides being very effective at getting the job done, distilled white vinegar is very economical. You are not out any money for pricey air fresheners which don’t work anyways. Additionally, there are no chemicals to irritate your skin, eyes or respiratory system. Distilled white vinegar is a natural way to deal with cigarette odor. It is also a better choice for the planet.
Another very obvious thing that you can do to help with cigarette odor is to clean out your ashtrays. Most ashtrays will slide out to allow you to wash them thoroughly. It is also a good idea to not smoke in your car or to allow other people to smoke in your car. One cigarette can leave an odor that you have to deal with again.
With these tips and the wonderful towels soaked in distilled white vinegar trick, dealing with stale, yucky cigarette odor will be a thing of the past. Your car will smell fresh and lovely. Don’t be surprised if you begin to get compliments on how wonderful your car smells from others.
