The first thing that you would need to think about is training. What type of training does the young driver have? Normally classes such as Driver’s Education are taught in school. This gives them a little experience behind the wheel of a vehicle with an experienced driver in the event of an emergency. An emergency can be anything from a little fender bender to getting lost on the road.
When parents have young drivers in their households, a lot of things change. One of the most important things that changes is the automobile insurance. Adding a young driver to the policy tends to increase the insurance rate because young drivers are more of a risk due to lack of experience. Younger drivers are more prone to be involved in accidents for many reasons. One is that younger drivers are more nervous when they are behind the wheel, so they may slam on the brakes or not step on the brakes in time. Another risk factor that may happen with younger drivers is that there are some that may be over confident. This can cause accidents because they will not admit that they are in need of assistance.
Another issue that can be a factor with young drivers is the fact that some of them will have total disregard for authority. So they may text while driving, talk on their cell phones or even not wear a seat belt. All of these things put the other drivers on the road at risk because the younger driver will lack attention to the road. A big issue is with speeding. Older drivers don’t feel the need for speed unlike the younger counterparts. The younger crowd is more apt to want to race one another thinking that they are invincible.
There are some young drivers that can prove to be responsible. This however is something that is few and far between. Most younger drivers tends to have that false confidence so of course they may think that they have all the answers when it comes to driving. The others have pride and don’t want to ask how to do something. When you put the two personalities together, it creates conflict , confusion and chaos.
Although there are a lot of issues that may arise with younger drivers, we have to give them the benefit of the doubt. These drivers have to start from somewhere in order to gain experience. After all everyone starts off as the young, cocky, know it all driver. This is why you must always take precautions when there are younger drivers out there. If you have one in your household, try to remind them to wear their seat belts, do not speed and be mindful of authority.
